The Trophy Bassmasters enjoyed another very productive day on Lake Erie and the bays and harbors connected to it this past weekend. Launching out of the Mazurik public access boat ramp near Marblehead at 6:00AM the 19 anglers started their 9 hour competition day. Cloudy conditions greeted the anglers and even a rain shower appeared briefly but soon the day turned very hot and steamy. The bass did not seem to mind though as 17 of the anglers brought in at least 1 keeper while 10 five fish limits were weighed in. The double winner for the day was Don Ratcliff. Ratcliff brought in a 14.83lb catch for 1^st place which included the big bass at 4.06lb. He reported catching most of his fish on a topwater frog. Virgil Grant placed 2^nd with a 5 fish limit and 13.02lbs.Rounding out the top 3 was Boyd Downey as he had 11.29lbs in his 5 keepers. The club brought in a total of 65 bass and 134.68lbs. The season is now at the half way mark as 7 of the 14 events are now in the books. The Angler of the Year race is tightening up and getting very interesting.
