The Trophy Bassmasters enjoyed a very productive
day on the Detroit River, Lake Erie, and Lake St. Clair.
All 17 anglers brought at least 1 keeper to the scales
and 10 of them caught 5 fish limits. A total of 64
keepers were weighed and released weighing a whopping
163.36lbs for better than a 2 1/2lb average. Don
Ratcliff repeated his success from the last tournament
as he once again landed the 1st place
position as well as the big bass for the day. Ratcliff
brought in 16.26lbs in 5 smallmouth bass and his big
fish weighed 4.59lbs. Virgil Grant also was a repeat
winner as his 2nd place finish duplicated his
Mazurik finish. Grant brought in 15.08lbs in 5 bass to
earn the spot. Kelly Dearwester continues his rookie
success as he caught 14.44lbs in 5 fish for 3rd
place. Dearwester is not really a rookie as he competed
for several years in the Northside Bass Club based out
of Indian Lake but this is his 1st season
with the Trophy club. With his recent success Ratcliff
has started to put a little distance between himself and
the rest of the field in 2012 Angler of the Year race.
Although John Clark only trails Ratcliff by 3 points in
the standings Ratcliff has amassed his points in 7
tournaments while Clark has used 8. The club competes in
14 events but each angler counts only his best 9 for AOY
points.
