The Trophy Bassmasters competed in the last regular club tournament of the season this past weekend under much less than ideal conditions. A brutally cold Northwest wind well over 20 MPH battered the area all weekend limiting the anglers to the protected areas of East and West Harbors as well as some portions of Sandusky Bay. Fifteen members tackled the waters from 7:30AM to 4:00PM with some degree of success. Only 3 limits of 5 fish were landed and they all came from East Harbor. Virgil Grant had the 1^st place catch of 9.65lbs. Grant’s win secured the 2^nd position in the final AOY standings falling just 5 points short of the top spot. The 2^nd & 3^rd positions came out of the same boat. Vern Boecher had 9.38lbs and Bob Flowers netted 8.99lbs both catching 5 fish limits. Boecher and Flowers reported catching numerous keeper bass all day to cull up to their final weights while the rest of the field struggled. Only 36 bass weighing 76.82lbs were brought to the scales. The Big Bass of the tournament was hauled in by Bert Grubbs Jr. as he landed a 3.40lb largemouth for the prize. All the2011 top honors have now been secured as Don Ratcliff won the Angler of the Year. Rookie Logan Gerber won the Co-Anger of the Year and Andy Cripple won the Big Bass of the Year with a 4.47lb bass he caught at Knox Lake. The top 10 classic qualifier field is now set also. The classic will be held sometime in the next 2 weeks and will serve as the final fishing outing of the season for the club.
