The Trophy Bassmasters spent a very eventful day at Lake Erie this past weekend. Storms dumped in excess of 4” of rain on the competitors during the day. Lightning and even a large waterspout were also sent down by Mother Nature for the club members to deal with. The fishing still turned out well though despite the weather problems as 18 of the 20 anglers weighed in at least 2 keeper bass of at least 14”. There were 9 limits of 5 bass and a total of 76 bass weighing in at 154.45lbs tallied by the club during the 9 hour day. Mark Dairy put the event away early as he had a 5 fish limit in the 1^st hour of the day and continued to improve his weight throughout the day. Dairy eventually culled up to 13.38lbs for the event to garner the top prize. Placing 2^nd for the day was Todd Neu. Neu put together an 11.68lb bag of 5 fish for the runner-up position. Vern Boecher rounded out the top 3 as he netted a 5 fish limit worth 11.07lbs and the 3^rd place check. John Clark had the big bass for the day as he boated a 4.03lb largemouth bass. The Angler of the Year race will see many changes in the next 3 events and the shakeup has already started. With the anglers only able to count the best 9 of the season’s tournaments for Angler of the Year points, this event was the 10^th of the season and caused several anglers to start culling their lowest event. It also allows for anglers that have not competed in 9 tournaments yet this season to start catching up.
