Bob Flowers has hit the ground running this year on the Trophy Bassmaster’s tournament trail. After a hiccup during the opening event at West Harbor in which he failed to boat a keeper, Flowers won the next 2 events including the most recent outing on Indian Lake. Alum Creek was the site of the first victory as Flowers bested 13 other competitors during a wet and cold 9 hour day. Flowers 5 bass creel tipped the scales at 6.2lbs to earn the top prize. Don Kraft, who is the current leader on the Angler of the Year standings, brought in 3 keepers and 5.6lbs for 2nd place. Third place went to the newest and youngest member of the club, Logan Gerber. Gerber, who has been a member of the Junior Trophy club for the past year, recently joined the adult club and promptly landed a 5 bass limit for 5.26lb and 3rd place in his 1st event. Don Ratcliff landed the lunker for the day with a 3.56lb largemouth bass. The club brought in 29 keepers at least 12” totaling 35.48lbs. All but 1 was released alive. Fast forward 1 week to the Indian Lake event where the weather was drastically different. Sunny warm conditions greeted the club and Flowers once again took the top prize. This time however Flowers added the big bass title to his list of honors as well as increasing his margin of victory. Flowers brought in a 5 bass limit that totaled 9.88lbs which included a 3.88lb bass for the big fish prize. Coming in 2nd at Indian was Boyd Downey. Downey netted 4 fish at 5.51lbs while Don Ratcliff had 5.51lbs in 4 bass for the 3rd place honor. Weight and fish totals were nearly identical to the Alum event as Indian produced 25 bass at 35.40lbs for the 16 competitors. All the bass at Indian were released alive. After 3 events the Angler of the Year race is taking shape as Don Kraft leads the way.
