The Trophy Bassmasters held the 12^th and next to last tournament of the season over the weekend and Don Ratcliff shut the door on the rest of the club’s hopes of capturing the Angler of the Year title by dominating the field on the Detroit River near Monroe MI. Ratcliff easily bested the 12 man field by more than a 2lb margin as he boated a 5 fish limit that weighed 14.86lbs. With the win Ratcliff secured the 2011 Angler of the Year point title. With only 1 tournament left no other angler is close enough to overtake Ratcliff under the club’s scoring system. Each angler may only count their best 9 tournaments. Logan Gerber finished in 2^nd place with the help of the day’s big bass which came within an eyelash of becoming big bass for the year. Gerber’s creel of 5 fish tallied 12.71lbs while the big bass was 4.45lbs. Andy Cripple still holds the big bass of the year with a 4.47lb fish taken at Knox Lake in June. New member Mike Robel finished 3^rd by the slimmest of margins. With 5 fish and 12.66lbs Robel missed 2^nd by less than 1oz. Robel had 1 fish that died which produced a 4oz penalty and therefore dropped him to 3^rd place. The club had a productive day with 7 five fish limits and 47 total bass weighing 115.50lbs. All but 1 were released alive. There still is a lot to fish for at the last tournament despite Ratcliff securing the AOY title. The co-angler of the year title is still undecided although Logan Gerber is firmly in the driver’s seat with only Andy Cripple still in contention. The top 10 in the point standings is still up for grabs also. The top 10 is coveted because of the year end club classic qualification going to the top 10 in the final standings.
