The
Trophy Bassmasters headed north yesterday to Lake Erie
for the 5th tournament of the season. The 15
anglers found the bass very cooperative as all but 2 of
the anglers landed a 5 bass limit. Lake Erie has a
closed season from the 1st of May until the
end of June where bass can be caught but must be
released immediately. The club measures each fish and
uses a length to weight formula to determine the
converted total weight for each angler. For the 3rd
tournament in a row Kelly Dearwester had an outstanding
performance. Dearwester landed 5 good smallmouth bass
that figured out to 21.33lbs to give him the win. Jim
Hartman also targeted smallmouth. Hartman tallied 5
brown fish for 20.32lbs to earn the runner up position.
Hartman also had the big bass of the day with a 5.14lb
beauty. By ODNR law, each angler is allowed to possess 1
fish 18” or over as a trophy. This makes it possible to
get a picture of the big bass of the day. The fish is
then released alive. Don Ratcliff also continues his
early tournament success. Ratcliff scored 5 largemouth
bass at 16.39lbs to take 3rd place. This is
Ratcliff’s 4th top 3 finish in the initial 5
events. For complete results log onto
