James Kain had a big weekend. Saturday the 29th
was his birthday and Sunday the 30th Kain
caught the largest bag of fish ever weighed in at a
Trophy Bassmasters club tournament since the club began
in 1974. Kain weighed in 5 big smallmouth bass that
pulled the scales to 22.97lbs in the 2nd tournament of
the 2023 season. Kain’s creel also included the big bass
of the day at 5.59lbs giving him both prizes. The club
competed on Lake Erie and the connecting bays and
harbors Sunday from 7AM to 3PM. Fifteen anglers braved
the cold, wind, rain, and sleet to bring in a total of
70 keeper bass of at least 14” for a combined weight of
179.39lbs. All 70 were released alive. Don Ratcliff
netted 5 largemouth bass weighing an impressive 17.83lbs
to capture 2nd place. Steve Ganger rounded
out the top 3 as he also had 5 largemouth. Ganger’s
total was 14.68lbs.
