What a great start to the 2010 Trophy Bassmaster fishing season! The club traveled to West Harbor at Lake Erie on Sunday for the initial contest of the year. Twenty-two members took to the water at 7:00AM for an 8 ½ hour competition day. Temperatures were chilly in the high 30s for blast off but the fishing was anything but cold. All 22 anglers brought at least 1 keeper bass of at least 14” to the scales while 12 anglers brought in a 5 fish limit. Thirteen members broke the 10lb barrier. Picking up right where he left off last season was Steve Ganger. The 2009 Trophy Bassmaster Angler of the Year started the 2010 season off right with a 5 bass limit and 13.97lbs to capture the top prize. Boyd Downey was a close 2nd as his 5 fish limit came up just 1/2oz short with 13.94lbs. Rounding out the top 3 was Bert Grubbs. Grubbs had 13.71lbs in his 5 largemouth for the 3rd place position. New member Mike Patterson brought in 2 huge smallmouth over 5lbs each. The largest was 5.18lbs for the big bass of the event. The club weighed in 84 bass for a total of 205.16lbs.
