WOW!!! That was all that could be said when the weigh-in was held for the Trophy Bassmasters club tournament this past weekend on Knox Lake. Large size fish as well as large numbers of fish were scored and released by the 21 competitors. A total of 84 largemouth bass 12” or longer were caught and tallied with an amazing total weight of 192.98lbs. None of the Lake Erie tournaments over the years have produced any weights rivaling the production at Knox this year. The club actually caught well over 150 fish during the day but each angler can only count their best 5 fish at the weigh in. There were 11 bass brought in to the scales over the special 18” size limit imposed on Knox Lake. All the other bass caught between 12” and 18” were measured, recorded, immediately released, and then scored by a length to weight conversion table. There were 14 five fish limits with 10 creels over 10lbs and 2 anglers had over 15lbs. All of this happened during the severe weather of wind, rain, and tornados all around the lake the entire weekend. Coming out on top of the slugfest was Mark Dairy. Dairy sorted through 12 keepers to amass a 16.96lb total with his best 5 fish. Dairy's boat partner for the day, Heath McGrew, finished in 2nd  place. McGrew accumulated 15.65lbs from his best 5 after culling through 13 bass. The 2 top finishers reportedly caught several of their bigger fish on deep diving crankbaits. Rounding out the top 3 was Steve Barker. After catching several smaller fish in the morning, Barker was able to pick through 12 bass that he caught and finally upgrade to 14.60 lbs in his best 5. Barker also had the big bass of day with a 4.29lb largemouth.  The top 10 in the 2010 Angler of the year point race tightened up a little with Don Kraft still in the lead.
