HOT_HOT_HOT!!! No, not the song by Buster Poindexter, but the temperatures the Trophy Bassmasters had to endure this past weekend on Alum Creek. Seventeen brave souls took to the waters at 6:00AM when it was somewhat tolerable. By 10:00AM the sun was doing its’ thing and some of the competitors were spending more time boat riding then fishing. Unlike the numerous pleasure boaters with tubing and water skiing and the jet skiers who were, well,, jet skiing, the bass boat crowd rarely gets more than a splash of water inside the boat to help cool down a bit. The fish seemed to have the same mindset as most of the anglers reported that the few fish they caught were early in the morning as the hot sun drove them down or under cover making them unwilling to bite. Only 25 keepers were brought in totaling 36.75lbs by the 3:00PM check in time. No 5 fish limits were brought in. Boyd Downey had the double win for the day as he captured both the 1^st place position and the Big Bass award. His 4 largemouth bass weighed 6.72lbs with the big fish going 3.32lbs. Bob Flowers netted 2 bass for 5.95lbs and 2^nd place. Flower’s boat partner Lance Blevins finished in 3^rd place. Blevins also had 2 fish which weighed 3.82lbs. Don Kraft remains atop the Angler of the Year point race with a comfortable 19 point margin. Kraft has finished in the top 5 in 5 out of the 6 events so far this year.
