The Trophy Bassmasters opened the 2013 fishing
season this past weekend with competition on West Harbor
and Lake Erie. Although the temperatures were pleasant
enough with highs climbing into the upper 60s, a very
strong southwest wind confined the 21 anglers to the
back waters and protected bays and harbors. John Clark
made a strong statement to repeat as Angler of the Year
as he netted the only 5 fish limit of the day and
actually beat the rest of the field combined by over 2
lbs as his creel tallied 11.48lbs. Clark also brought in
the Big Bass winner with a 3.40lb largemouth. Only 5
other fish were recorded during the 8 ½ hour day
totaling 9.27lbs for a tournament total of 10 fish and
20.75lbs. Mike Robel had 2 bass and 3.42lbs for 2nd
place while Boyd Downey had 1 fish at 2.34lbs for 3rd
place.
