The
Trophy Bassmasters held their 2nd club
tournament of the 2013 season this past Saturday under
brutal conditions. Temperatures in the 30s along with
strong north winds and even snow and sleet were all part
of the mix for the 7 hour competition day which started
at 7:00AM. Even with all the negatives the weather
presented to fishing, 19 anglers forged ahead in search
of largemouth bass. The catch results were pretty much
as expected as only 18 keepers were brought to scales
with a total weight of 30.15lbs. All were released
alive. Only 9 anglers had keeper bass while 5 of them
brought just 1 fish to the scales and 10 members
blanked. There were a couple of bright spots though as
Boyd Downey had a 5 fish limit and 8.96lbs for 1st
place while Guy Gerber caught a true giant for Indian
Lake as he landed a 5.36lb lunker for Big Bass of the
day as well as 2nd place in the event.
Gerber’s fish set’s a very high mark for the big bass of
the year. There has not been a year end Big Bass award
over 5lbs for several years so Gerber’s chances at the
final award are quite good. Mark Dairy rounded out the
top 3 as he brought in 2 bass for 4.79lbs and the bronze
medal.
