Logan
Barker and Cody Barker did not let the fact that they
had never been to Lake St Clair in Michigan keep them
from dominating the past weekend during the Trophy
Bassmasters 2 club tournaments on the famous smallmouth
fishery. Logan Barker won both events while Cody Barker
finished 2nd on Saturday and 3rd
on Sunday and also collected the big bass award for each
day. The Barkers, who are cousins, fished as boat
partners both days and reported doing research on
Youtube to help them decide what areas and techniques to
use. Saturday was extremely hot and the lake was
incredibly busy with large boats making the fishing very
difficult. The catch rates showed this as only one of
the 12 anglers had a 5 fish limit. Logan Barker’s catch
on Saturday was 4 bass and 12.79lbs for the win. Cody
Barker was a very close 2nd with 4 fish and 12.69lbs
including the 3.78lb big bass for the day. Mike Johnson
claimed the 3rd place prize with 4 bass and
11.36lbs. Johnson also had very little experience on the
lake as he had only been there once before. The 12
anglers only managed 32 keeper bass of at least 14”
during the 8 hour competition day for a total weight of
80.67lbs. The Barkers went back to work on Sunday. They
started in the same general area they had fished the day
before. Logan reported that he only had 1 fish at 11am.
Then in the next ½ hour had a fish catching flurry that
filled out his 5 fish limit and upgraded 1 time adding
over 16lbs to his creel to secure the double win. Boyd
Downey put together an 18.42lb bag of smallmouth to
claim the runner up position. Cody Barker had another
good day. Cody’s 5 fish weighed 13.96lbs for 3rd
place and once again included the big bass of the day.
His big fish weighed in at 4.86lb. The club totals on
Sunday improved to 34 keepers and 93.44lbs. As expected,
with their top performances, the Barkers made moves up
the Angler of the Year point list. Cody gained 2 spots
from 7th to 5th position and
Logan improved from 9th to 6th,
just 1 point behind Cody.
