The Trophy Bassmasters took a break from Lake Erie and its bays and harbors to pry the calm and
shallow waters of Lake
Loramie in west central Ohio. Loramie is not one
of the club’s most productive stops and if rumors are true the most recent
visit may be the club’s last. Production at the lake has been way down for a
few years. The club has had only one good outing in the last 5 years at the
lake. In 2007 there were 33 keepers and 42lbs brought in. This year was the
worst yet as only 7 keepers at 9.86lbs were weighed in by the entire 14 man
field after the 8 hour competition day. Bob Flowers had the double honor of
1st place and big bass. He had 2 bass that totaled 3.75lbs with a
2.44lb largemouth for big bass. Boyd Downey finished 2nd with
3.08lbs and three 12” keepers despite only being able to fish for 2 hours.
Third place went to John Wadding with 1 keeper at 1.75lbs. The results of
the tournament shook up the Angler of the Year point race somewhat. The
anglers are only allowed to count their best 9 tournaments out of the 11
event field. This was the 9th tournament. The 10th and
11th events are on Lake Erie so anything is
possible. The top 10 anglers still have a mathematical chance at the Angler
of the Year title. Although the point totals show some big gaps now, when
each angler’s worst 2 tournaments are eliminated, the top 7 anglers are
separated by only 16 points. It is going to be one of the tightest finishes
in many years with several competitors having a legitimate shot at the
title. |
