The Trophy
Bassmasters bass club crash landed back to reality after the utopia of the
last tournament on Lake Erie. Lake Erie produced fish for everybody with
multiple catches by several anglers and large fish to boot. Lake Loramie
proved to be quite another foe as the harvest was slim both in numbers and
size. Only 7 of the 17 anglers brought 12" keeper fish to the scales. No
angler had more than 2 fish and 8 of the 10 keepers weighed in at close to
1lb each. Total catch for the day: 10 bass - 14.15lbs. All were released
alive. Boyd Downey took first place and big bass honors with just 2 fish.
Total weight was 4.11lbs and the big bass weighed 3.10lbs. This is Downey's
2nd win in a row which is tightening the Angler of the Year race. More on
that in a moment. Second place went to current Angler of the year leader,
Heath McGrew. His 1 keeper bass weighed 2.51lbs. Third place was awarded to
Mark Dairy. His 2 fish totaled 2.27lbs and allowed him to maintain the 2nd
position in AOY points. The club now proceeds to the last 2 tournaments of
the year. Both of them are on Lake Erie which will help the club's morale.
The point system now moves into the second phase as each member may only
count their best 9 tournaments. The Loramie tournament was the 9th
tournament. The top 5 anglers in the AOY race have each competed in all 9
events. The last 2 tournament scores will affect each angler differently as
their finishes are calculated and low scores are thrown out. An angler is
awarded 35 points for a tournament win, 30 points for 2nd, 27 points for
3rd, 25 points for a 4th place and 1 point less for each declining position.
