The Trophy Bassmasters made
their 2nd trip up North to the big waters of Lake Erie. This time
the starting point was near Monroe MI on the Detroit River. This gave the
anglers many choices as they could
stay in the river, travel South to Lake
Erie, or run the 25 miles up the Detroit River to the North and Lake St
Clair. The 13 members did a little of each as they met with varied success.
First place and big bass winner, Judd Rarey traveled 27 miles into Lake
Erie. He nailed 5 smallmouth and 15.69lbs including a 4.57lb smallmouth for
the big bass honors. Boyd Downey went the other way as he ran 37 miles into
Lake St Clair to net 13.94lbs in his 5 fish limit for 2nd place.
A sharp contrast was 3rd place finisher Mark Dairy. He caught 2
of his best fish at the launch ramp and finished his limit within site of
the ramp. Dairy’s best 5 weighed 13.28. The Mr. Bass point standings took
another shake up at the top as Downey moved back in front. Rookie Lance
Blevins has the membership taking notice as he has moved into the 2nd
spot in the standings in only his first year of serious bass fishing.
Blevins has a 2nd, a 3rd, a 4th, and two 5th
place finishes while only failing to bring in a keeper in 1 tournament
during his very consistent season. |
