The
Trophy Bassmaster point race for the 2005 Mr. Bass championship has a new
contender. Bob Flowers has put together top performances in the last 2
tournaments to add his name to the short list of front runners. Flowers
netted 2 nice smallmouth bass at the club’s recent tournament at the Black
River and adjoining Lake Erie near Lorain Ohio to win the event and join
Judd Rarey and Nick McCullough at the top of the club standings. Flowers
fish weighed in at 6.51 lbs to top the 12 man field. Vern Boecher used some
last minute heroics to land the Big Bass of the tournament and the year so
far in the last half hour of the day. His smallmouth bass weighed 4.42lbs
stealing the season’s Big Bass title from Flowers who had just earned the
honor at the previous tournament on the Detroit River. Boecher’s 1 keeper
also garnered him 2nd place for the day. Placing 3rd
with just 1 fish and 3.03lbs was Nick McCullough to strengthen his 2nd
position in the point standings. Only 6 keepers were caught by the club and
all were released alive. This being the 9th tournament of the
season, the point race will now become very interesting as each member is
only allowed to count their best 9 tournaments for Mr Bass points. Anglers
who have fished all the tournaments will now be forced to drop their lowest
score after each of the remaining 3 tournaments which will further tighten
the point totals. |
