Indian Lake is one of the most heavily used bodies of water in Ohio both by recreational boaters as well as fisherman. The Trophy Bassmasters consider Indian as their home lake as they are only 25 miles away. Competing on Indian Lake during the hot summer months usually produces fair numbers of bass but the size is typically lacking. Such was the case last weekend as the Trophy club traveled to Indian for their annual competition. Eighteen members caught 43 largemouth that only weighed 51.03lbs. All but 1 were released alive. That 1 dead fish played a big role however. Judd Rarey brought in the largest weight of the tournament with 4 bass weighing 5.81lbs. His bag also included the day’s big bass, a 2.27lb fish. Rarey had the dead fish though as 1 of his 4. There is a 2oz penalty for a dead fish which gave Rarey a net weight of 5.68lbs. Larry Pennington brought in a 5 bass limit that weighed 5.71lb giving him the win by .03lbs or ˝oz. Boyd Downey was the 3rd place finisher. He had 5.44lbs in his 5 fish limit. As the end of the season gets closer a scoring rule begins to come into effect. Only each member’s best 9 of the 12 tournaments can be scored for Mr. Bass points. This allows a member to have a poor performance or a date conflict and still be able to stay in contention for the championship. The next few tournaments could send a big shake up through the point list. As it stands now Judd Rarey and Nick McCullough still lead the pack.
