The weather
dictated what was to be for the Trophy Bassmasters at their club tournament
held on the Detroit River. A summer cold front dropped water and air
temperatures as well as the desire for the chunky smallmouth bass to strike
a lure. The 9 anglers spent 9 hours testing the waters of northern Lake
Erie, Lake St Clair, and the Detroit River in pursuit of bass 14” or longer
to bring to the scales at weigh-in. Only 11 such keepers were brought in
with a combined weight of 24.64lbs or less than a 2 1/4lb average. This
falls far below the potential for the area. Bringing in the winning sack of
fish was Dave Wedertz. He had 3 fish for a combined weight of 6.42lbs and
first place. Boyd Downey had 2nd with just 2 bass and 5.78lbs
which included the day’s big bass at 3.22lbs. Rounding out the top 3 was
Oliver Heldman. He also had 2 keeper smallmouth. His weight was 4.22lbs. |
