Report:
The Trophy Bassmasters made a trip North to the fertile waters of Lake
Erie and really got the fishing season going as the smallmouth were
cooperative and plentiful. The Black River near Lorain Ohio was the site of
the event as 12 members and 2 guests competed from 6:00AM to 3:00PM trying
to net a 5 fish limit of 14” or better bass. Five anglers did just that as
the weights were impressive with 4 of the 5 topping the 16lb mark. First
place and big bass went to Nick McCullough His creel weighed 18.01lbs with
the lunker tipping the scales at 4.59lb. Jim Miller took 2nd with
a 17.35lb total in his 5 smallmouth. Steve Ganger took the other top finish
weighing 5 bass at 16.57lb. Totals for the day for the club were 35 bass
weighing 116.75lbs for a whopping 3.33lb average. All the bass were
smallmouth and all were released alive. Following this, the third, event the
2003 Mr. Bass point standings are starting to take shape |
