REPORT:The Trophy Bassmasters held a very productive club tournament last weekend. Sixteen members traveled north to Michigan and Lake St Clair to test their skills on this popular waterway. Catch rates were very good as a few of the anglers, who were there for 2 or 3 days, reported catching as many as 40 or more fish per day.  Smallmouth bass dominated the creels as only 1 largemouth was weighed in. Total catches for the club during the 9 hour competition day were 44 bass of at least 14” which tipped the scales at 86.99lbs. The first place winner left little doubt at weigh-in as his catch far out-distanced the rest of the field. Jim Miller had a 5 fish limit including the 3.92lb big bass. His total weight of 13.22lbs landed him both top prizes. Coming in a distant 2nd was Chris Swygart. His 5 smallmouth totaled 10.60lbs. A very close 3rd place finisher was Vern Boecher. He had 10.42lbs in his, or just over 1 ounce less than Swygart to take the honor. This marks the halfway point of the season and McCullough still holds the top spot in the Mr. Bass point race while Jim Miller starts to apply pressure.
