REPORT:

The Trophy Bassmasters of Kenton held another very productive bass tournament on Sandusky Bay and Lake Erie this past weekend. The competitor numbers were down as there was a large Muscular Dystrophy benefit tournament held an Indian Lake the same day and several Trophy members opted to compete there. Only 9 anglers took to the waters at the 7:00AM blast-off time. When the quitting bell rang at 3:00PM a total of 27 bass of at least 14" were weighed and scored. The total weight was an impressive 64.10lbs or just shy of a 2 ½ lb avg.

Taking both top prizes for the day was Bob Flowers. Flowers earned first place honors by bringing in a 5 bass limit that pulled the scales to 12.95lbs. His mixed creel contained 2 largemouth and 3 smallmouth bass. One of the smallmouth weighed a whopping 4.72lbs for the Big Bass award. Second place went to Vern Boecher. He also had a 5 bass limit that totaled 9.31lbs. Jim Miller takes 3rd with another 5 fish limit of 9.31 Lbs. A dead fish cost Nick McCullough 3rd place as there is a 2 ounce or .13lb penalty for bringing in a dead bass. His 4 fish weighed 9.36lbs but with the penalty his official weight was 9.23 moving him to the 4rd place position. This is the 9th tournament of the year and with 3 more to go the 2002 Mr. Bass point race is going to be close. Each angler may only count his best 9 tournaments for the Mr. Bass standings.
