The Trophy
Bassmasters competed in their 5th club tournament of the season
this past weekend at what has become their favorite location. Lake Erie and
it’s surrounding bays and tributaries has proved itself time and again to
produce both quality and numbers of keeper bass even during hot and
unfavorable conditions. All but 2 of the 18 anglers brought in at least 1
bass of 14” or more with a club total of 45 keepers that weighed a combined
110.34lbs! All but 1 was released alive. The big winner for the day was
newcomer Dave Stuck. Dave was previously a member of the Northside
Bassmasters, which has since folded. Along with him, his son Clint and Tim
Cramer have also come over and joined Trophy’s membership. The elder Stuck
has accumulated a wealth of fishing knowledge, especially on the big lake,
and that know-how proved itself Sunday. He caught the largest of 3 five fish
limits weighed in during the day. His limit tallied 14.37lbs and included a
huge 5.35lb smallmouth bass for the Big Bass of the day. Stuck’s boat
partner was Vern Boecher who had 4 smallmouth and 10.74lbs for the second
place award. Rounding out the top 3 was Don Thompson who had a 5 fish limit
and 10.04lbs for the honor. The point standings remained relatively
unchanged as Nick McCullough finished 11th with 2 bass and
4.46lbs to keep his point margin at 30 points. |
