REPORT: HOT! Not a new word for this
summer but a very accurate one for the Trophy Bassmaster’s 8th
tournament of the season. Delaware reservoir was the site of the event, for
the Kenton based bass club, this past Sunday for the 12 competitors. Already
quite warm at 6:00AM the anglers hoped to fill their creels before the
searing heat arrived and made both fishing and catching more difficult.
After the 8 hour day, shortened from the normal 9 because of the heat, the
catch rate was actually much higher than anticipated. Although only 22
keeper largemouth bass of at least 12" were scored, most predictions were |
just hoping for double figures. The total weight of 26.11lbs included
several fish of less than 1.00lbs. All were released alive. Capturing the
top prize for the second tournament in a row was Boyd Downey. His total
weight of 6.97lbs in a 5 fish limit included the day’s Big Bass at 2.29lbs.
Nick McCullough took the second place prize to keep his point cushion in the
Mr. Bass race. He netted 4 bass and 5.07lbs. Steve Barker rounded out the
top with 4.10lbs and 4 bass. With just 4 more tournaments to go, the point
race will start to bunch up once the 10th tournament is reached
and the lowest scores are removed. Only the top 9 tournaments can be counted
for year end Mr. Bass point totals. |
