What a contrast a week
and a change of location make. The Trophy Bassmasters
left
the productive Michigan waters of Lake St Clair and traveled southeast to Buckeye Lake east of Columbus. Only 10 members made the journey, possibly
due to the anticipated tough conditions. Just 10 keeper largemouth bass were
brought in during the 9 hour day with none of them topping the 1 ½ lb mark.
All 10, weighing 12.08lbs, were released alive. The top prize went to Boyd
Downey. His 3 keepers weighed 3.41lbs and were all caught by 10:30AM. Chris
Swygart repeated his performance from St Clair as he took 2nd
once again. His catch was much smaller though as he had 2.47lbs in 2 fish.
Third place only required a single fish and what turned out to be the day’s
largest fish at 1.38lb. Rene Ramirez took the double honor even though the
big bass award is not presented if the catch does not weigh at least 3lbs.
The 2002 point race grows ever tighter with 5 events left. |
